Timeline Graphic   1972   Assessment of children with suspected disabilities in northern Utah and opening of Cache Valley's first education center for children unable to attend public schools
  1973   Navajo teacher aides trained for reservavation school, a project that leads to a diversity of technical assistance for the Navajo, Hopi and Ute tribes
  1976   CPD serves as "host" center for the development of other national University Centers for Excellence in Montana, South Dakota, and the Navajo Nation
  1983   Nationally recognized research institute established, conducting studies on early intervention and establishing demonstration programs; Research on autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders commences with establishment of a biomedical immunology lab
  1987   Ten states plus Bureau of Indian Affairs schools served by Mountain Plains Regional Resource Center, which assists state special education agencies with numerous needs from curriculum requirements to effective discipline practices
  1990   Assistive technology training and support offered to Utahns by new lab dedicated to helping people with disabilities become more mobile and independent
  1995   Statewide gaps in services targeted so more paraprofessionals and interpreters available and people of diverse cultures are better served
  1998   Inaccessible web content addressed with worldwide outreach to train web designers and computer programmers
  2001   Graduate-level interdisciplinary training in neurodevelopmental disorders provided for health professionals at USU and the University of Utah Medical School
  2004   Community programs expand with a support facility in Salt Lake City and sports programs in Cache Valley
  2007   CPD celebrates 35th anniversary
